Aluminium phosphide
AlP
Aluminium phosphide is a harmful compound which is formed from aluminium and phosphorus.
Harmful because It is used to kill small verminous mammals such as moles, and rodents. Fumigation using this has caused unintentional deaths. Since it is poisonous, people use it for suicide and there is a campaign by Iranian Forensic Medicine Organization to stop its use as a pesticide.
It is formed by ionic bonding.
Aluminium
Structural components made from aluminium and its alloys are vital to the aerospace industry and are very important in other areas of transportation and building. Its reactive nature makes it useful as a catalyst or additive in chemical mixtures, including ammonium nitrate explosives, to enhance blast power.
Phosphorus
Phosphorus is an essential element for all living cells, and organisms tend to accumulate and concentrate it. Low phosphate levels are an important limit to growth in some aquatic systems. Today, the most important commercial use of phosphorus-based chemicals is the production of fertilizers, to replace the phosphorus that plants remove from the soil
Formation
It is formed when an aluminium atom reacts with a phosphorus atom. Aluminium has 3 valence electrons and phosphorus has 5 electrons. Thus, the phosphorus atom will attract the valence electrons from the aluminium atom and both will have a complete valence shell of 8.
